Great location, high volume of customers, high-end products with frequent sales, promotions, and paid parties for future employees. How much more brand image can you ask for??
Apple is everywhere!!!!
Apple just released the iPad this past weekend, and sales are suprisingly booming! I personally think the iPad is a little ridiculous, and pointless, but two of my friends bought it when it came out, and they love it! They said it’s something mainly for fun and entertainment (a way to read books and the wallstreet journal which carrying a laptop on your lap in bed, and an awesome way to search the internet). However, my friend spent 900$ total for the apps and accessories it came with. Isn’t that a little much? Well people including myself trust the products because of the fast, stylish, easy to use computers, and of course the infamous iPHONE and services! Since the early 90’s, Macintosh has done a complete turnaround in brightening and livening their marketing strategies! Their products are selling like hotcakes. It’s incredible.
People talk about the technology, but Apple is a marketing company that has everything to do with branding. The current CEO, Steve Jobs, spent $100 million marketing the iMac, which was a run-away hit. Apple continues to spend lots of money on high-profile ads like the “Switch campaign,” and it shows.
Even knowing this, I absolutely love my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, and I will continue to shop the the Apple store, and be interested in the products they have to offer :)
During my spring break in Torrance (LA area), I realized how much I miss the weather, the beach, and the casual layed back lifestyle. As far as fashion, for instance in SoCal, I would wear jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops almost every day and it was perfect….Just throw on a light jacket towards the late afternoon to sunset and I was good to go. My wardrobe did a deep turnaround when I came to San Francisco although it’s only 390 miles away from home! I had to expand and renew many things in my closet to become adapt to the chic, layered, more formal dress of the bay area.
One thing that inspired me the most was my mom. She makes jewelry for a hobby because it relaxes her and she enjoys making things that are one of a kind with a touch of love into every piece. She hasn’t gotten so serious as to sell her jewelry but her best accomplishment is knowing that family and friends around her love the things she makes, especially if she has designed a piece just for that person, and they wear it on a regular basis. This made me think of our company, Wunder Kammer.
Another thing I was quite inspired by is how relaxation and spending quality time can really make a person happy. I have a very fast pace here in San Francisco with homework and school, working, and making time to party with friends that I rarely give myself time to relax and really enjoy and take in the things around me. We are forced to observe and take notes of things around us for some classes, but doing it for myself and really enjoying it is a completely different story. Taking time to find happiness in simple things is essential to life.
The beach, however, is a huge inspiration to me, and it always has been since I’ve never been parted from the beach and living at most 15 minutes drive from it ever since I was born. The science and nature and beauty of a beach is so soothing, so welcoming, and above all, amazing. There are numerous and endless things that inspire me when I go to the beach and I can go into so much detail with it at a later time.
By looking at these previously shown pictures of Marc’s advertisements, store fronts, and products, the first thing that comes to mind is that they grab your attention. That is the first thing that Marc strives for, is attention. He knows how to use the media and he knows what his customers want before they know what they want. He always uses lots and lots of mixed up references, which is a sign of great talent.
For example, when Winona Ryder stole a ton of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue, she was caught because of the tags that she left on a blue Marc Jacobs purse. Closely after she was released from jail, Marc used her as a model. He himself is also pretty outrageous, and has gotten in trouble for being too rowdy on a plane, and as most of us know, has had a past with drugs as well. But rather than letting this depart him from his creative work, he uses it as a pushing force to new innovative designs.
Any media, celebrity, breaking news, extravegant event that Marc can use to inspire him, he is there on the scenes. The latter time of Bush in office, he used the words “Worst President Ever” as one of his ad campaigns on his store front display. This grabbed some negative attention, but by far way more possitive attention that brought people in his store, and more so voting during the new elections. He uses his models in a lot of his ads in a very grungy way, which is what he is known for, but besides the celebrities that he uses like Victoria Beckham, he uses models that look like every day people with an expression of having issues. People can relate to these, and the way they are set up looks sort of like a scrapbook. His packaging is made to look unique as well, yet literal, like his Daisy perfume for women. Rather than just a clear bottle, he uses one that is metal appearing that you can’t see through, with a sculpted daisy for the bottle lid. It makes it mysterious not being able to see the liquid, but is still very glamourous at the same time.
Any marketing opportunities, and idea that come in to mind about the modern consumer and how they want something different and outstanding, Marc uses it to his advantage. Through his communication and brand identity, Marc is way ahead of the game when it comes to his competitive advantage.
Something that I really admire about Marc Jacobs is that he wants the women that wear his clothes to ultimately feel great in what they wear, and feel comfortable and sexy. In fashion, I think that this is the most important thing. The main reason I shop for hours is to find apparel and accessories that are not only in with the times and my personal style, but find things that make me feel good, and hot, if you will. It’s those days when I get so sick of my wardrobe, or feel like i’m wearing the same things over and over, and just don’t make me feel happy in what I’m wearing.
Not only does Marc think that the idea of women feeling sexy is most important… but he applies it in his designs. When he has to create something new, he always has this onlasting idea in the back of his head, and seems to think heavely about the awe-inspiring and spectacular designs he will create next that make women feel beautiful.
Marc’s recent Fall 2010 show, called Marc Jacob’s Magic Lane, he introduced classy and unique clothing that brought back American favorites such as the A-line skirt and the sheath and jaunty pantsuit. Throughout this show, over and over, he states that timing is everything, and he seemed eager to show clothes were exquisite without being complicated…ones that were familiar without being tweaked too much, and that ultimately made you feel good.
Marc always stays one step ahead of the fashion pack and people wonder why that is. He not only satisfies celebrities, but more importantly the people that are working with him and around him. He keeps things interesting and pleasing.
